Transit Cards

Transit Cards come in pre-valued amounts that give you the flexibility to ride CTA buses and trains without the hassle of digging for exact change.
Transit Cards store value for fares. Turnstiles and bus farecard machines automatically subtract fares and transfers and show the remaining value. Vending machines at all CTA train stations can be used to add value to the card.
The Student Reduced Fare Transit Cards are valid on school days only between 5:30 am and 8:30 pm. Eligibility for the student reduced fare is limited to full time students, ages 7-20, for trips to and from regular day classes. Students ages 12 to 20 must present a valid CTA Student Riding Permit when paying their fare to qualify for the student reduced fare.
The Reduced Fare Transit Cards are for seniors 65 and older, customers with disabilities with a valid RTA permit, children ages 7-11, children age 6 years and younger traveling alone, and for an attendant accompanying a customer with a RTA Reduced Fare “P” Permit.
